Sanlorenzo moves two 52m projects into its new facility
Following the recent signing of a leasing agreement for new premises in La Spezia’s Cantieri San Marco, the Italian shipyard Sanlorenzo has begun to disperse its current projects to the new facility. Until now, all metal Sanlorenzo superyachts were constructed in the Viareggio facility.
The first models to make the move from Viareggio, were two projects from the new 52m Steel range, both of which have completed hulls. A large superyacht transporter barge facilitated the move during the night and delivered the two projects safely to the new construction shed.
By the end of April, two more projects, both 42 metres, will be transported to the new facility in a similar way.
The new production site is particularly large, with the capacity to build yachts from 40 to 80m and direct access to the sea. Thus, Sanlorenzo now has the capacity to further develop its superyacht division. The Italian superyacht builder is also planning the opening of a dedicated refit area dedicated to larger superyachts.
With the opening of the La Spezia shipyard, Sanlorenzo will now be able to count on three separate production sites:
- The Ameglia Shipyard, where the company HQ will remain and where the production of 23m to 32m fiberglass yachts are constructed.
- The Viareggio premises, focusing on the production of 34m–38m fibreglass yachts with increased space now that the superyacht division has been relocated.
- The La Spezia Shipyard, focusing on the production of the largest metal superyachts Sanlorenzo builds.
Sanlorenzo has maintained its strong position in the market over the last five years and ranked the fourth most active shipyard in The 2016 Superyacht Intelligence Annual Report. In this period, the Italian shipyard has delivered between five to 12 superyachts every year and has now amassed 86 deliveries across its Ameglia and Viareggio shipyards to date.
There are now 30 yachts under construction at Sanlorenzo, two of which have been launched. The Italian shipyard is expecting to deliver 14 yachts in 2016.
