Claasen Shipyards under new ownership
By Rory Jackson
Vitters Shipyard and the management of Claasen Shipyards have completed the purchase of Claasen Shipyards, with the former acquiring a majority share. Together they will form the ownership and management structure of the new-look Claasen Shipyards.
SuperyachtNews.com speaks with Louis Hamming, CEO of Vitters Shipyard, about how the two Dutch shipyards intend to leverage each other’s expertise to the benefit of both brands.
“Claasen Shipyards has a fine team of people with considerable skills and experience, and we are delighted to welcome them as colleagues,” starts Hamming. “The yard has built an impressive fleet over the years and the exceptional expertise of the Claasen craftsmen is completely in line with the identity of Vitters.”

Hamming highlights identifies the size of yachts conducted by both yards historically as the key difference between the two, with Claasen operating at a smaller end of the spectrum and Vitters a higher. He also believes distinct philosophies, finishes and equipment will be complementary, establishing a more complete portfolio.
“We are both going to benefit from sharing resources and cooperating. In this respect working together is already paying off,” Hamming continues.
Both brands will retain their individual identities, but both will also seek to benefit from the cross-fertilisation of information and resources. At management level, Claasen and Vitters will make and share agreements with each other in regular meetings and there will be close ties in project management with the two yards sharing suppliers and contractors, establishing a stronger maritime infrastructure.
Marketing activities will also be combined at industry events.
