Christophe Harbour readies for first stage of completion with groundbreaking ceremony
By Lulu Trask
Friday 20 June, 2014, saw the groundbreaking ceremony of St. Kitt’s 300-berth Marina. Upon completion, Christophe Harbour, owned and developed by Charles ‘Buddy’ Darby, owner of Andromeda La Dea, will be home to 300 freehold berths stretching up to 91m in length.
The groundbreaking ceremony ushered in the near-conclusion of the first phase of the marina’s $90 million development, which come the end of 2014 will see the first 24 slips, from 45.7m to 67m, finally complete.
Local dignitaries, including the Governor General, His Excellency Sir Edmund Lawrence, Prime Minister Denzil Douglas and Minister Richard Skerritt, attended the ceremony, where Darby elaborated on the marina’s development in his opening address. “Our team is spreading the word of our efforts across the globe. We’re attending boat shows from Monaco to Fort Lauderdale and interest from charter agents and boat builders for events here is strong. I just recently attended The Pendennis Cup in Falmouth, England, and we are planning a sister event in St. Kitts next March,” stated Darby.
Come completion, the marina will offer visiting yachts an entry and turning basin, reduced bunkering costs due to lack of import duties on the import or sale of fuel and a marina-designated point of entry in an effort to expedite customs clearance.
