Dometic hoovers up superyacht market share
Dometic Marine’s status as global powerhouse of HVAC and sanitation systems for the superyacht market has become further entrenched with news of its acquisition of Livos Technologies, in addition to the release of a raft of new products across its portfolio. This will consolidate Dometic's dominant market share, which the company claims amounts to 50 per cent of the superyacht fleet for HVAC systems.
The Livos acquisition, which adds yet another dimension to the Dometic offering was welcomed by Frank Marciano, president of Dometic Americas when it was confirmed in October. “Livos Technologies is an innovative provider of engine room ventilation, and we are delighted to be able to bring it under our umbrella,” Marciano said. “This acquisition reinforces Dometic’s status as a leading global provider of marine HVAC systems, sanitation systems, electronics and galley equipment. It is an exciting marriage of complementary companies that will result in an expanded presence in the commercial, military, pleasure boat and superyacht markets.”
Introduced at this year’s METS, the Smart Touch cabin control is a full-colour marine touch-activated thermostat and system control for a yacht’s air conditioning system. The Smart Touch cabin control works like a modern home thermostat, allowing exceptional ease of operation and full system insight.
Exhibited alongside the Smart Touch was the Spot Zero Dock Box – a portable freshwater reverse-osmosis marine system that can be stored and used dockside. The Spot Zero Dock Box uses water from the available dock hose for spot-free cleaning of hulls so there is no need to go back and chamois-dry the vessel’s surfaces. It can also be used to fill a freshwater tanks for spot-free dishes and glassware.
The company has also unveiled its tenfold range of WAECO fridges for 2014, which are being specifically marketed to the superyacht industry.
Dometic has also strengthened its own internal team with a number of appointments to key senior positions. Julien Lefeuvre has taken on the role of head of marine for original equipment manufacturing. And in Europe, Paul Hickinbotham has been appointed EMEA director for sales and administrations and the commercial division. Hickinbotham will be supported by incoming sales manager for EMEA, Gustaf Hamrén and Steve Morris, who will assume the role of the region’s director of the technical and sales application division. Kester Petersson will be installed as head of business development and market for the EMEA marine aftermarket.
Joachim Kinscher, president of Dometic Group’s EMEA divison said the new team structure would focus the company’s growth moving forward. “These changes were made in the first half of the year and we are now seeing the rewards of focusing key principals on a single EMEA territory,” Kinscher explained. “Our marine OEM and aftermarket businesses are recovering at differing rates. It is clear that each sector has unique needs and strategic management to support both existing and new business growth.”
