Crewsure provides insurance policy to assist with new MLC 2006 regulations

Crew-focused insurance provider Crewsure has announced a new insurance policy with a view to assist shipowners and managers protecting crew on board under the recently ratified Maritime Labour Convention (MLC) 2006.
Crewsure Marine is a composite insurance policy paid for by the employer and provides insurance to seafarers, covering medical care, personal accidents, loss or delay of baggage, and includes the cost of repatriation in the case of abandonment as required under the MLC 2006. The insurance policy has been described by Crewsure as a “no fault” policy, and is based upon providing crewmembers with a type of insurance equivalent to those working ashore, and, according to Crewsure, “provides a benefit to seafarers in the manner in which employers provide insurance to shoreside employees as a standard contractual entitlement.”
Managing Director of Crewsure, Robert Johnston, commented: “I intend to see Crewsure working harmoniously with the maritime industry as we strive to deliver a composite insurance product complimentary to P&I insurance, which finally delivers the security and benefits that seafarers deserve. We recognise that it is critical to engage with unions, shipowners, ship managers, manning agents and the insurance industry, which we have been doing and will continue to do so.”
All Crewsure insurances are underwritten by Globality Health and KA Köln.Assekuranz Agetur GmbH on behalf of Great Lake Reinsurance (UK) PLC, all part of insurance and reinsurance company Munich Re.
For Johnston, Crewsure Marine will be a policy complimentary to Protection and Indemnity (P&I) insuranceRelated Links
