Message of Condolence from Proteksan Turquoise
By Martin Redmayne
Comments
It is with profound sorrow that Proteksan Turquoise announce the passing of its inspirational board member Hayati Khamhi.
Hayati Khamhi, who was yesterday laid to rest in Istanbul, will be remembered for his passion for the sea and his infectious desire to challenge the conventional and preconceived. He is credited with creating the asymmetric exploration yacht, as beautifully executed on his own yacht Chameleon B and further developed on Leo Fun and Vinydrea and any number of yachts built elsewhere.
His long time business partner and Managing Director of Proteksan Turquoise, Mehmet Karabeyoglu paid this tribute to his friend:
"Each of the 17 yachts we built together since 1997 was an infectious joy, but more importantly he has left a lasting legacy which has had an indelible impact on this yard and the world of superyachts."
Hayati represented the financial investment and interests of the Khamhi family in Proteksan Turquoise. The Khamhi family have today pledged their continuing support to Proteksan .
Hayati's brothers Cefi and Kerim said, "That despite our personal sorrow, it is our wish to continue to fulfill the dreams and plans that Proteksan Turquoise had prior to Hayati's death. We are busy readying the delivery of our new 75 metre. We are building three other projects and actively developing exciting new projects. It is, suffice it to say, business as usual."
Martin H. Redmayne, Chairman and Editor in Chief of The Superyacht Group added, "Having met Hayati on several occasions over the years, it is a huge shock to me and no doubt the whole industry that such a visionary investor has been lost so prematurely, my thoughts go out to his family and friends and we will do everything we can, to support Mehmet and Proteksan Turquoise in the short and long term future.
"Hayati was passionate about the shipyard and the myriad of projects they built, his legacy will live on in every project delivered or in build. He will be missed by everyone that ever had the pleasure of spending time with him."
