Sabdes finalises designs for 24m Tri-deck Explorer

Sabdes Design in Australia is in the final stages of its new design for a 24m Tri-deck Explorer yacht for US shipyard Bering Yachts. Industrial Designer, Scott Blee says designs are ‘95% agreed’ with the owner and the project just having completed it's first phase of Engineering and Naval Architecture. The 24m is part of a new intake of smaller scale projects for the design company whose portfolio includes designs up to 80m for superyacht yards including ICON yachts.

24metre Tri-deck Explorer will be delivered to her Russian owner by early 2013
With a raft of explorer yachts recently launched in the 30m-plus range, including Big Fish and Pegaso, this could be seen as indicative of trends in the superyacht sector for developing the lower end of the spectrum; a strategy companies are adopting to diversify their operations. Blee has interpreted this as reflecting the needs of the market:
“There seems to be a growing demand for yachts of this size. In particular a robust design and construction means these size boats can be a go-anywhere vessel just like their bigger cousins, albeit with much smaller crew, or even owner operated.”
For the designer, this is also a proactive project, conceived with the aim of attracting new owners with an appetite for exploration. Blee said:
“A priority as a designer is to see opportunities for new design that can attract people to certain segments that yachting can offer. Also to engage with people that might not have considered owning a yacht otherwise.”
The 24m is a Tri-deck Explorer and will be one of the most voluminous yachts of her size owing to her 6.8m beam. She is ‘ice strengthened’, which, whilst not allowing her to venture to truly intrepid waters as would ‘Ice Class’ category, allows comfortable cruising to the Arctic and Antarctic. The design is based upon Bering's fully engineered steel construction design with in-house naval architecture. Bering says she is a 'real little yacht built to go places safely, surely and in style.’
The 24metre Tri-deck Explorer is expected to be completed and delivered to her Russian owner in early 2013.
